Augusta Cyclocross Series

The temperature at start time for this weeks Augusta Cyclo-cross race was close to forty degrees
colder than last week, but the sun was shining brightly and it turned out to be a beautiful day
for the second event in the series. Once again it was a truly interstate contest, with riders
showing up in Augusta from New York's nearby Hudson Valley, New York City and Connecticut to
compete with New Jersey 'cross racers. The fast and scenic 1.75 mile course at the Sussex
County Fairgrounds was a little muddy, and frozen at the start, but race organizers worked hard
during the week to eliminate some trouble spots and create a new, twisting and banked section
over several piles of gravel.
In the women's open race, Tara Parsons of New York City beat Katherine Lambden of Fort Lee, NJ.
Twenty seven riders battled in the Men's B race. The Verge/Test Pilot team, of Cornwall, New York
dominated the contest, taking the top three spots and four of the first five places. Jan Wiejak,
last week's winner, was first, outsprinting teammate Mike Magur.. Ed Burgess, last year's series
champ, was third. Kevin Kielty, riding for Skylands Cycling was the first New Jersey finisher for
the second week, crossing the line in sixth position.
In the men's A race, Christian Favata of Kerhonkson, NY won handily for Table Rock Tours, beating
teammate Myron Baker by over a minute. Kissena rider Eric Ragot, of Brooklyn, NY worked his way
up from fourth to third in the latter half of the race. Brian Lariviere of Team Bulldog was the
first New Jersey finisher in fifth place.
This was another great race and we hope to see you at the upcoming races: November 16, 22, and 30.
