September 4, 2006, marked the 15th edition of the Olde Mill Inn Tour of Basking Ridge. This year posted a record turnout of nearly 400 riders. Part of a two day Omnium with the Tour of Denville, riders from up and down the East coast participated for a chance to score wins and prizes in categories for beginners to professionals. Riders from Colavita, Targetraining, Rite Aid and GS Mengoni added a professional presence at the event. Lisbon Quintero of the GS Mengoni team scored a win in both Basking Ridge and the two day omnium in the Pro 1,2 category against a very talented field including Kyle Wamsley, Bobby Lea, and Shane Kline. Aubrey Gordon of Team Squiggle proved that he truly is Mr. Consistency by taking the win in the Masters 45+ race, and Ted Inoue took the 35+ plus race. Steve Badger of CRCA Sakonet won the omnium for the 35+ Category. In the 55+ Category, Richard Distlerath won both Denville and Basking Ridge. Young Sean Melcher of CJCT/Northeastern Hardware was a true star on the day, taking 3rd in the 15-18 juniors race, and winning the Category 3 race in commanding fashion. Chris Stern of Liberty Cycle stole the win in the 15-18 Omnium. Greg Cordasco, owner of Liberty Cycle and race promoter was quoted as saying "Junior riders have always been a focus at Liberty Cycle. With nearly 50 junior participants in this year's event, its wonderful to see that this focus is coming to fruition." Trevor Kahl of Team Liberty Cycle won the overall omnium in the 10-14 category, and won the 10-14 race at Basking Ridge and Denville.
This year's kid's races proved to be just as entertaining for participants and spectators alike with 300+ children participating again. The day was long, but the efforts of the volunteers and racers alike provided a show for the spectators that didn't let up. Liberty Cycle would like to thank all who attended and participated, especially the volunteers who helped to organize the event. We look forward to seeing you next year!!
