Dear Hardmen and Hardwomen, Wheel Suckers, Podium Contenders, Poseurs, Pack Fodder, Delusional Autobus Riders and Freddy Freeloaders:

You are hereby invited to the Country's Most Unique Cycling Event, the third annual SPY Belgian Waffle Ride, to be held Sunday, April 27th, 2014. This year the course will be similar yet different to the first two editions, with added dirt sections for increased difficulty and safeguards in place to ensure no one “cuts the course.” The route will be longer, dirtier and hillier than previous events.

Created in the spirit of the great Spring monuments, the SPY Belgian Waffle Ride (BWR) will take its riders on a ronde through North County San Diego, where it will clatter through agrarian hamlets and the Ardenne-like hills—not over classic mountains per se, but rather a never ending string of ups and downs—along single track climbs, sandy trails, and roughly paved roads carved through inland San Diego’s beautiful rural and sometimes forested backcountry. Unlike many other Spring events, this one will not simply be a one- or two-hump race suited to the smallest climber with the biggest lungs, as no one really likes that guy…

This year's event will be suitable for all types of two-wheeled non-motorized vehicles—mountain bikes, cyclo-cross bikes, road bikes, and even single speed track bikes.

The route will feature a number of water crossings, roughly 11,000 feet of climbing, a lot of dirt, gravel, sand and mud, and very few places for Freddy Freeloaders to sit in and hide.

We are proud to again be working with Challenged Athletes Foundation as the official charity of the BWR. A portion of each registration fee as well as 100% of the funds from the raffle will go directly to CAF to support the wonderful work they do. You can learn more about them at: www.challengedathletes.org

The SPY Belgian Waffle Ride is being hosted by our friends at ViaSat, where the two-day expo and start/finish will be. The first heat will go off at 8am, followed by two other heats at ten-minute intervals.

This year's event will be bigger in terms of participants, better in terms of food and amenities, and more challenging in terms of you will be lucky to finish.

We are very excited to be offering this great experience to a special few and look forward to providing the most exciting and fun day on a bike ever.
