Your season is under way! Second Life Bikes and the Garden State Velodrome Association have teamed up to invite you for a night of roller racing and fun!
Spectators welcome. Registered racers will race a 500m time trial to qualify for two-up heats of one kilometer. Both road bikes and track bikes will be allowed.
What are rollers?
Rollers could be thought of as a treadmill that you ride your bicycle on.
What is roller racing?
Roller racing is a form of indoor bicycle racing. Competitors race each other as hard as they can on their own bicycles while riding on rollers. Their position in the race relative to each other is represented by the movement of colored hands on a large analog dial.
What makes roller racing exciting to watch?
These are short, fast, very intense races. Spectators often crowd very close to the racers and the entire competition happens in view of the audience. It takes great skill to ride at high speeds on the rollers, with the winners often riding in excess of 200 revolutions per minute!
Gear restriction "In roller races, either road or track bicycles may be used. All classes are restricted to a development of 7.69 meters (25 feet 3 inches), and cranks must be at least 165 millimeters long." Riders must rollout before their time trial to ensure that they have not exceded the maximum allowable gear. As a reference, a 51x14 with a small enough tire should meet rollout. Please check your gear before arriving. http://www.wmrc.org/downloads/gearchart.pdf
