STAGE RACE TECHNICAL GUIDE

Frequently Asked Questions

1.  Is this a stage race or an ommium like last year was?  It is a stage race for sure.  We also have individual races that race separately from the stage race divisionsm plus the gran fondo.  Last year was an anomonly and we were put into the difficult position, late in the year, of having to retract from a previous sponsor obligation that precluded the stage race format.

2. Is this the last year of the stage race format?  Yes, at least for 2016 and the forseable future.  Unfortunately, registration rates across the region and the US are dramatically down, on average, while the costs to produce the event are dramatically up.  Beginning in 2016, the Tour of the Catskills will be a one-day race and gran fondo, similar to our Tour of the Battenkill.  Stage races are extremely time consuming and costly in comparison.

3. Who does the race benefit?   You - we spend an incredible amount of time and resources to bring a safe and enjoyable event to racers each year.  We also donate to a number a volunteer groups that engage the event as well as promoting a great number of businesses in Greene County and the Northern Catskills region that rely on events like the Tour of the Catskills each year.  We are happy to bring the opportunity to them.  Our organization works for far less than mimimum wage, on average, so please don't think we're retiring on this...we're not.

4.  But don't you have sponsors?  Other than those listed on the site that we are VERY grateful for, no.  Lance happened.

5.   Is the course challenging?  Yes.  You should start training today.

6.  Is the event fun?  Very, even if you don't train...  :)

7.  It's going to be hot.  Will there be neutral water?  Yes.  We will have neutral water on Stage 2 and 3, as well as the start & finish each day.
