2014 Mid Atlantic Super Series Information
Important Information - For 2014 the MASS will have 2 types of XC races. 2 XC races (Greenbrier & Bear Creek) will be USAC AMBC races. These races will be qualifiers for USAC Nationals. These races will run standard USAC classes. We will consolidate these race results into the MASS classes for MASS series scoring. The other XC races will be standard MASS races.
Upgrade Rule Change - Winners of last years Cat 1 Men's 40-49 and 50+ classes are required to move up and race the Cat 1 Elite/Open class. For all upgrade requirements please refer to the "Series Classes and Cash Payouts" section of the MASS website.
USA Cycling - Greenbrier and Bear Creek XC races will again be USAC sanctioned. All Category 1 classes at these two races only will require a USAC annual Cat 1 mountain license. This includes the Pro/Cat 1 Men and Pro/Cat 1 Women. Any racer holding a Pro USAC mountain license must race these categories. You will not be permitted to race any Cat 1 or elite class without an annual Cat 1 or Pro mountain license. Cat 2 and Cat 3 classes and endurance classes do not require an annual license. Cat 2 & 3 riders do not need to qualify for Nationals but must have an annual license to race at Nationals. All other MASS races will not require a license for any classes.
MASS registered racers are competing for end-of-season champions jerseys and individual and team awards. In order to be entered into the MASS series competition participants must register for the series here and be assigned a series plate number. Series Registration is a requirement for the series because we will continue to use permanent series number plates with timing chips in them. You must register yourself for the series (and all races) using YOUR BikeReg profile. We cannot have team directors register their team riders all at once because that will cause a major scoring problem. This is because when you create your BikeReg profile there is a unique Racer ID number associated with you and your profile. You do not see this number but it is downloaded for series registration and for each race registration and it is what allows the scoring system to recognize you and assign you your series plate for each race as well as score you properly when race results are imported into our scoring system. One comment for parents that register themselves as well as their children. This can be done, there is a way to have multiple racers in your BikeReg profile. Contact tech support at BikeReg for details. When you register for each race on BikeReg make sure you use your BikeReg profile and do not register as a “guest” of you will not be assigned your series plate and that will cause all kinds of problems.
Series plate. As is the past this is the basis for all scoring. If you do not race with your series plate you will not be scored properly at the race and you will not be scored properly for the series. Do not forget your series plate. Put it with your shoes or helmet or something else you need to race so you can’t forget it. If you do forget it or lose it you must let us know BEFORE you race with a non-series plate or you will not be scored for the series.
Team Topics. The only way to earn series points for your team is to be on the team roster your team director submits to the MASS and be a registered MASS racer and race with your series plate. These three things and nothing else is what ties you to the team scoring. We do recommend you include your team name in your BikeReg profile so that team name shows up in your results on-line but that team name has nothing to do with getting the points for your team. If you register for a race at the race your team name will not be entered into the timing system because there is not enough time to do that. That means your team name will not show in the on-line results. You will however still earn your team points as long as you raced with your series plate.
We are working on a way for team directors to assign their team members through the MASS website. Check the MASS website for the latest information.
- Elite Women and Elite Women 40+ will race together for the same cash payout but will be scored separately for the individual MASS competition.
- Cat 2 Men 50+ and Men 60+ will race together for the same prizes & medals but will be scored separately for the individual MASS competition.
